Expectations

Expectations

When my Dad set upon a new endeavour or a new quest and the knowledge that comes with it he never concerned himself with outside expectations. He, and he alone, set the standards by which the undertaking was to be run. The goals it would set. The achievements it would obtain. I've come to learn that while this approach is somewhat uncommon it has many reasons to be preferred.

At our workplace, with family members, amongst friends (in other words: Life) we find ourselves forever trying to reach or surpass the expectations of others. Often allowing our self-worth to be defined by others and those expectations. To be unconcerned about such trivial matters is truly liberating. Freeing up ones mind to focus on more positive and effective things.
